WB and Puducherry leads with 82% polling
Mumbai: The economic capital of India voted just 53.1 per cent on Thursday for the 2014 General Elections said the Election Commission. But compared to 2009 poll results the city has improved though it’s still way long behind from the West Bengal and Puducherry that saw a high voter turnout of 82 per cent. Whereas several people were left stranded who couldn’t find their names in the voter list though they had their voter identity cards.
Maharashtra on the whole recorded a 53.33 per cent, a marginal rise as compared to the turnout of 44.87 per cent in 2009. Jharkhand recorded an average 63.44 per cent polling. Meanwhile Madhya Pradesh recorded 64.4 per cent polling for 10 seats, Tamil Nadu 73 per cent for 39 seats and Rajasthan 59.2 per cent for 5 seats said the Election Commission.
Whereas according to EC data 62.5 per cent turned out to vote in Chhattisgarh. Bihar saw 60 per cent polling for 7 seats each, and Assam 77.05 per cent for 6 seats, the EC said. Uttar Pradesh recorded 58.58 per cent polling for 12 seats, said the Election Commission.
