UPA approves formation of the state from Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad to be joint capital for ten years
New Delhi: The UPA-led Central government on Tuesday approved the formation of the Telangana state. The new state will be carved out of Andhra Pradesh but Hyderabad will be joint capital for 10 years. It will be 29th state of India.
United Progressive Alliance and Congress Working Committee (CWC) in its meeting ended the fight for the formation of the separate state that began in 1956. Telangana will be formally accorded the statehood after the bill is passed in the Parliament.
“Hyderabad would be the joint capital of the remaining Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for 10 years” said Ajay Maken, the Congress spokesperson.
RLD leader Ajit Singh while addressing to the media said,”The UPA unanimously decided in favour of Telangana”.
Telangana state will comprise 10 districts with Hyderabad as its capital. The Congress party reportedly dropped the proposal for Rayala-Telangana, comprising Rayalaseema and Telangana because of the reservations from leaders of both the regions. Also Hyderabad couldn’t be given status of Union Territory due to strong opposition from the Telangana leaders.
