Kolkata: Expressing his discontentment over the Saradha chit fund probe by the CBI, one of the prime accused Kunal Ghosh has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention into the CBI investigation.  He has alleged that the agency has not yet questioned many beneficiaries.

Ghosh, who has been in jail for the past one and half years, sought the Prime Minister’s  attention saying the CBI probe, following the Supreme Court’s order to probe  into the larger conspiracy angle into the Saradha chit fund scam, seemed to have spared many beneficiaries.

"The CBI inquiry is being used to get tacit support from the Trinamool Congress in Parliament," Ghosh, writes in his four-page letter to Modi. Ghosh has also alleged that the accused in Saradha scam are being spared selectively.

Ghosh was arrested in 2013 for cheating,  breach of trust and criminal conspiracy in a case related to a Saradha Group firm called Broadcast Worldwide Pvt Ltd about its failure to pay salaries to its employees.
He is a Rajya Sabha member who was suspended by the ruling TMC allegedly for anti party activity.

The four-page letter said prior to the CBI probe, investigation by the state police was vindictive and motivated. But after the CBI took over the case, the probe was heading towards the right direction pinning many influential politicians, former bureaucrats and government officials.

But the probe lost momentum during the past three to four months and many politicians and bureaucrats, who had benefitted, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had not been questioned, Mr Ghosh added.

In his letter he said that he was a former  journalist and had paid his taxes. He urged the Prime Minister to intervene to ensure an investigation “The actual culprits and the beneficiaries of the Sarada scam are still at large,” Ghosh stated in his letter. Free from any sort of political influence.

The letter has been sent to PM’s secretariat from the Presidency Jail where Ghosh is lodged. Meanwhile CBI sources said that they have almost finished its investigation into the Saradha case. The central agency is expected to submit its fresh charge sheet within the next fortnight.
