Fresh tremors in Nepal, death toll rises to 6,621

Kathmandu: Fresh tremors in Nepal were felt today measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale that occurred at 3.55 am, and the second tremor measuring 4.3 at 5.55 am after a devastating earthquake which struck on Saturday 25 April even as death toll is around 6,621.

The intensity of the tremors was 4.5 on Richter scale, said India Meteorological Department in its report while USGS claims it to be of 5.0 magnitudes. The tremors were felt 25 kms long in East of Khudi and 64 kms east of Pokhara in Nepal.  The IMD recorded the strength of the tremors as 10 kms. 

Death toll has come up to 6,621; Dhakal put the number of injured at 14,023. More than 100 people were also killed in neighboring India and China. There may still be around 1,000 people that include the injured and the stuck people, also including the foreigners.

The rescuers are racing against time to find the survivors. Supplies are running short in the devastated region. Thousands of people began gathering   before dawn outside the main bus station after the government promised to arrange special services.

The region is devastated by a series of earthquakes that struck on 25-26 April on a magnitude of 7.5 on Richter scale and on Sunday of 6.8 magnitudes on Richter scale. The tremors were also felt in China, Bhutan, Pakistan and India as well. 

In India, tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim. As per the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was Lamjung in Nepal.
