Lucknow: At least 30 passengers were killed and around 150 others were injured in a train accident in Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning. The accident occurred around 9:30 am near Bachhrawan Railway station, about 50 km from state capital, Lucknow.
Railway Spokesperson Anil Saxena said “According to preliminary reports, the locomotive driver apparently overshot the signal and as a result, the engine and two adjoining coaches derailed.”
Railways have ordered an inquiry and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed in the accident. While Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured seriously, Rs 20,000 will be given to people with minor injuries.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Also 24 medical teams with doctors and paramedical staff, first aid kits have been sent to the accident site.
