Kolkata:  In what can be called a stern message to rebels, the Trinamool Congress, the ruling party in West Bengal expelled on Thursday former minister Humayun Kabir for six years for making anti-party statements.

“Humayun Kabir has been expelled from the party for six years. Despite being show caused, he continued to indulge in anti-party activities. So the disciplinary committee has taken this decision,” Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee said.

On Wednesday Kabir had lambasted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for projecting her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. The influential leader from the State’s Murshidabad district had said on Wednesday that Ms. Banerjee wants to make her nephew the king which the people of the State are not going to accept. 

The TMC leader also added that it was Mr. Mukul Roy, the All India general secretary of the party who has been running the party so far. The TMC has recently curtailed Roy’s hold in the party by putting MP Subrata Bakshi share the All India general secretary post along with Roy.

Commenting on the action taken against him, Kabir said that he had seen the action against him coming.” It was expected. I am yet to take a decision on my future course of action,” said Kabir.

A one-time confidant of state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Kabir had parted ways with him and joined TMC in November 2012 following which he was inducted as Animal Resources Development minister.
