Mumbai: Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria took immediate action after a model sent him an SMS alleging that she has been assaulted inside a police station. Three policemen and a woman are among eight arrested in the case so far. The policemen allegedly also extorted money and gold from her. After six initial arrests two more persons were arrested later today. All the eight accused were produced before a local court that remanded them to police custody till April 29. .
The 29-year-old woman sent a text message to Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria on Tuesday, alleging that she had been assaulted inside a police station. The model said that she fled the city after the alleged rape, fearing harassment.
Maria immediately called her to his office on Wednesday and after speaking to her, ordered action. Cases of rape, sexual harassment and extortion have been filed against two assistant police inspectors, a constable and five others including a woman.
The model informed the top cop that she had gone to a five-star hotel to audition for a film on April 3. When she came out, a police vehicle allegedly pulled up and the men inside threatened to arrest her if she didn't get in.
The police car allegedly took her to a police station in Sakinaka area in Andheri and raped her through the night. The next morning, the policemen allegedly demanded money, around Rs. 4.5 lakh, to let her go, which her friend reportedly came and paid. She told Maria that her friend went to several ATMs in the midnight to get the cash.
