Kolkata: The role of a senior IPS officer posted with the Central paramilitary force is under CBI scanner for his alleged bids to influence the central investigating agency not to arrest Matang Sinh in the Saradha scam.

The Bengal cadre IPS officer, as per CBI sources was brought on deputation to the Centre by Anil Goswami who had already been removed from the post of Home Secretary on charges of attempt to dissuade  CBI not to arrest the former Congress minister in relation with the multi crore scam. The CBI has already apprised the DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) about the conduct of the IPS officer.  The Union Home Ministry too has already been informed about this officer’s conduct.

According to sources in the CBI, the first request was made to a senior CBI official probing the Saradha case to carry out questioning of Sinh, an accused in the case, in Delhi instead of Kolkata. Later, the same top cop had requested the CBI not to arrest Sinh, a former minister of state during PV Narsimha Rao’s tryst as the Prime Minister. Matang Sinh was arrested by the CBI last Saturday.

A CBI source further informed this correspondent that Sinh had played an active role in the IPS officer’s central deputation.

Speculations are on that the Central deputation of the IPS officer may be cut short and he may be shunted back to West Bengal or will be offered inconsequential posting if the CBI report is found to have ample ground to prove the officer’s involvement in this matter.

The Government, sources said, is examining the report of the CBI amid speculation that the Central deputation of the IPS officer may be cut short and shunted either back to the West Bengal cadre or shifted to some inconsequential posting.
