Raghubar Das (59) is ready to take oath as the new chief minister of Jharkhand. Bhartiya Janta party (BJP) has won 37 seats in the recently conducted Assembly elections in the state. Das will replace Hemant Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
Earlier, Das was elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party in Jharkhand. The BJP had allied with All Jharkhand Students' Union for the elections.
Das will be the first non-tribal chief minister of the state that was formed in 2000. The BJP had two tribal chief ministers in the past -Babulal Marandi and Arjun Munda.
Das is a former deputy chief minister and BJP vice-president. He has been elected from the Jamshedpur East seat, with 10,3427 votes. His nearest rival, of the Congress party secured 33,270 votes.
