Kochi: A junior national medalist in sprints Nithin U attached to Sports Authority of India (SAI) Thiruvananthapuram, attempted to commit suicide early morning today. Nithin was allegedly harassed by his seniors in the hostel.
Nithin's roommate found him with a slashed wrist by using a broken glass in pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to a nearby Medical College Hospital Thiruvananthapuram. Soon after giving him first-aid he was discharged.
SAI coaches said that Nithin used to buy products from the internet and forcefully sell it to his juniors at double the prize. He was caught by his seniors on Tuesday and firmly told that the matter would be brought to the notice of SAI authorities if he continued to bully newcomers.
Nithin is a state champion in 100m and 200m is also a trainee of Nishadkumar NV. He comes from Chirayinkeezhu.
Last month, a woman trainee attached to SAI's water sports centre in Alappuzha had died in a group suicide attempt with three of her colleagues.
