Mumbai:  Hari Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd, a diamond export company rejected a job application of candidate on the basis of his religion. Zeshan Ali Khan, an MBA graduate had applied for a job to the company but in response to his application he received an email saying, “Thanks for your application. We regret to inform you that we hire only non-Muslim candidates”.

The mail turned into a controversy when Zeshan Ali shared its screenshot on his Facebook page.  The National Commission for Minorities has taken up the case of religious discrimination in violation of Article 14 of Constitution of India that criminalises any form of discrimination on the basis of caste, race, religion or gender.

Lawyer and activist Shehzad Poonawalla later filed a complaint to the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), home ministry and the Maharashtra chief minister, seeking justice for the alleged case of discrimination.

NCM chairperson Naseem Ahmed has acknowledged receipt of the petition and said that, “If there is any truth in this, it is unfortunate. An inquiry shall be conducted.”
