A meritorious student, this year's Madhyamik examinee, was allegedly knocked down by a reckless biker and dragged dead nearly 15 feet at Deulbari, Mukhtarpur under Jibantala police station in South 24 Parganas, around 35 kilometers away from Kolkata  on Sunday night.

The student’s family members had lodged a complaint with the Jibantala police station alleging that the biker used to tease the girl and used to pass lewd remarks. The girl used to ignore the advances. So she was murdered in this inhuman way.

South 24 Parganas SP Praveen Tripathi said, "Prima facie it appears to be a case of accident. However, the accused Ganga Das has been arrested based on the complaint of the girl’s family. Ganga was arrested on Monday from a hideout at Taldi in Canning. He was booked under section 304 culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

The biker Ganga and his pillions had fled after the incident, leaving the bike in the middle of the road.

According to police sources, Suparna Naskar 16 was walking with her mother to a Harinam Sankirtan pogramme a few metres away from her residnce. On her way, she was drawing water in a bottle. As she finished drawing water, a bike knocked her down. As part of her cloth got entangled with the spokes of the wheel, she was dragged dead 15 feet. They were urged repeatedly to stop the bike but they didn’t, said mother of the victim Kabita. She was first rushed to rural health centre where she was declared dead.

Top scorer of her school, Iswaripur Marjina Vidyaniketan, Suparna Naskar, 16, had  never stood second in any examinations..
