Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a tele-serial actress at her apartment in Parnasree area in Behala in the southern fringes of the city. The body of Disha Ganguly was recovered in hanging condition by the police on Thursday morning. Co incidentally her friend also attempted suicide jumping in the railway tracks near Howrah rail station. However, her attempt was averted by some alert people who had found her movement suspicious.

Police sources said Disha was a special friend of that girl too and the later will often stay back in Disha’s apartment. Both of them acted in the same television serial. Disha’s parents too had often raised objections with her friend staying back with their daughter. Both of her parents who had been presently staying at South Africa reached the city on Friday afternoon.

The post mortem was conducted and in the late afternoon the last rites was performed. “The primary post mortem report has indicated that it is a case of suicide. The timing was more than two hours after Disha had her dinner on Wednesday night. But we are still investigating why the actress of 23 years took such a drastic step,” said Rashid Munir Khan, deputy commissioner of police (South West).

“An amount of Rs 50,000 was transferred through phone banking from the joint account of Disha and her mother the day before she committed suicide. The transfer was made by Disha herself without her mother’s consent. We are trying to find out the money trail. We are scanning her call details for further leads,” an investigating officer told the Journo Spy.

She had also called up her father on Tuesday and said that she would be travelling to South Africa within a few days; stay back for some days and would return with her mother.” “We have not had the slightest indication about any abnormality in Disha’s behavior,” Disha’s father Sourav Ganguly said.

Police investigation has revealed that Disha was having a love affair with one Bibasman Ghosh another tele serial actor. The duo had together gone to watch the IPL match between KKR and Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on Wednesday evening. After the match was over Disha had gone for dinner at Bibasman’s home at Beleghata after which Bibasman dropped Disha at her Parnasree apartment.
When Bibasman called her up on Thursday morning several times there was no response. He rushed to Disha’s residence only to discover it locked from inside. He along with some local residents broke open the door to find her hanging with a dupatta.

“We are also interrogating Bibasman for further leads in the case. It may be a case of troubled relationship. But we are to unearth what is the motive of her death. Disha’s cell phone may come up with some leads. But all the messages have been deleted. We are trying to retrieve it,” said an officer of Parnasree police station.

Her friend who had made a suicide attempt is still undergoing treatment at a private nursing home. The police will also question her once she recovers.
