Moscow: Russia is performing its biggest military parade, celebrating its 70 years of victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. Thousands of hordes are marching on Red Square in Moscow, and new armor has been exhibited for the first time. Many foreign VIP’s also attended the event. However, most Western leaders stayed away over Russia's role in Ukraine.

The victory parade in Moscow started at 10:00 local time (07:00 GMT). President Pranab Mukherjee, Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon were among the 20 world leaders attending the event.

Military units from across Russia - some dressed in WWII-era uniforms - have been marching, and more than 100 aircraft have flown over Red Square. The most talked-about new high-tech Russian armour is the T-14 Armata battle tank that has a remote-controlled gun turret. There were RS-24 Yars global ballistic missiles - each accomplished of delivering three nuclear warheads.

President Vladimir Putin said global co-operation had been put at risk in recent years. His Ukrainian counterpart accused him of justifying aggression.

Germany invaded USSR in 1941 despite 1939 non-aggression pact that led to Great Patriotic War in Russia (1941-1945). Finally The Soviet Army stopped Nazi Army at Moscow, at the end Russians’ won the war and Nazi Fuhrer Adolph Hitler had to commit suicide.
