Seven dead after drowning in the Mehbubnagar lake

Mehbubnagar: Seven persons who had gone to take bath in the Cherikonda Gowramma lake at Sarikonda village of Amangal mandal in Mahbubnagar district died on Wednesday after drowning in the lake. 

A group of 11 people belonging to two families of Al-Jubail colony near Falaknuma in Hyderabad had gone to visit relatives at Mudvin village and after that they went to take bath in Cherikonda Gowramma lake. Four of them jumped into the lake but soon got trapped in the mud and began drowning while screaming for help, others jumped to rescue them but unfortunately no one knew swimming. The victims also include four girls who were in the age group of 17 to 37. Swimming experts were called to remove the bodies.  

The police have identified the victims as Ahmed Baig's sons Salman, 25, and Rahman, 19, daughter Rukhya Begum, 17, and daughter-in-law Munna Begum, 20, and Ali's daughters Fathima Begum, 17, and Muskan, 19. Auto driver Basith, 37, who took them to the village, also drowned. 

Mahbubnagar district collector announced a compensation of Rs one lakh to of the family of the victims. 

Amangal police inspector Venugopal Reddy informed that a case of accident has been registered and they are further investigating the details.
